Goals for Matti

Image
Although my ultimate goal of getting Matti ready to is still the same, there are lots of other little goals that I would also like to achieve with him this year too, so these will be incorporated in to number 3. Some of these will be a one off while other will require a bit more work. Others may also be added as the year goes on. Ones I have achieved will be crossed off the list. So, here we go: Be able to ride without needing to lunge first Be able to take off bridle without taking apart Put bridle on without taking apart Hack in company Hack alone Be able to wear a fly fringe Be happy to be clipped Load confidently Jump out on a hack Jump small course (2ft) Schooling to Prelim level Ride in the snow Ride on the beach Ride bareback Go drag hunting Get Simon to ride him Enter a dressage comp Complete a clear round Enter a show jumping comp Enter a showing class

Snow Day

Image
I decided to make the most of the snow and take some pictures of the horses loose in the school. Well, Simon took the photos, I had to run round after the horses to make them look pretty (didn't think that one through did I?). First up was Blossom. We were having fun until she decided to jump out of the school, from stand still. Didn't quite work as she forgot to lift her front legs up and so did a roly-poly over the gate! She got up with a WTF expression on her face, before heading off to the hay barn. I caught her and checked her all over, she was fine other than her pride being a little dented. I do wish we had got it on camera though as was rather funny (not at the time, I thought she was going to hurt herself)! We then took her for a little walk round the forest, which she really enjoyed, although I almost ended up face-planting in the snow. Once we got back, I put her in the stable to dry off and gave her breakfast. I then got Matti in a little later and took him in the s...

Riding in the snow

Image
Today, I managed to achieve one of my childhood dreams of riding in the snow. I took Matti on a hack with Paige and Jackie, we decided to have a slow hack, but Matti kept hoping we'd up the pace. Those 'go faster' shoes are certainly working! When we decided to have a gentle trot, Matti decided it would be more fun to have a canter. I couldn't stop him as I was laughing too much- he was not being horrible, just eager and kept to a nice speed rather than tanking off into the distance! Once I had managed to get back some control, he did some lovely shoulder in/ half pass in trot in protest of having to walk again but soon started behaving again. Bless him, it's actually lovely to have a horse so happy to be ridden! Hopefully tomorrow I can get some posing photos in the snow, both ridden and at liberty.
