Wokingham Equestrian Centre - Dressage

The day started off so well. Had a later time, so spent the morning getting ready and loading the lorry. Headed off slightly late but made good time. All was going well until the last few hundred yards when we were confronted with a 11'6" bridge, in a 12' horsebox. Me and mum carried on to the venue while Simon tried to see if there was another way around. Sadly not so I ended up withdrawing from the class and heading home. Matti

Have had a quiet few days, but hopped on the Matti monster today. Apart from his normal anticipate the canter routine, he was really chilled out (or maybe just hot) today. Worked on asking for bend with one rein only and softening in the trot, which he started to do by himself once he was settled. Had a slightly rushed canter, but he listened to my aids, pulled himself together and then was much better. Trot work afterwards was really good - it's either amazing or he tanks off. Ewshot Riding Club - Dressage

Not the outing I planned today. Neither horse wanted to load, which meant I missed Amber's class so ended up just taking Matti. He was very tense and I just ended up nursing him through the test for a disappointing but fair 54%. On the plus side he traveled well, stood happily while getting ready and walked straight on the box on the home journey. Schooling Amber today was certainly interesting, but it's still hard to tell if it's pain related or just behavioural. Vet follow up call on Monday and depending on outcome will book physio again. from Solstice Dressage http://ift.tt/1dZceUn via IFTTT

Lesson

Lesson went really well today, considering how Matti has been recently. I put a sheepskin half pad under his saddle so that may have helped. He still had a few strong moments, but no arguments. When he gets strong, I have to remember to not pull against him, as if nothing to fight with, he settles. We worked mainly on rhythm in the trot, which we managed to get nice & consistent. Trot to canter transitions are still a little explosive, but settles quickly into it. Canter to trot takes longer to settle but getting there. from Solstice Dressage http://ift.tt/1dZceUn via IFTTT

Another good lesson today, Matti seems to behave so much better when Jamie is around! Stayed in walk and trot, working on rhythm in the pace and flexing his neck to the inside and outside. Rode Amber today as well. She was quite tense and didn't really settle today. Will ride again tomorrow and see how she is. Tomorrow is the end of her bute trial, so will see how she is by Monday, then decide next course of action. from Solstice Dressage http://ift.tt/1dZceUn via IFTTT

Matti's visitor

Matti had a visitor today, his previous mum Mel. He was more relaxed today - until canter time! He is worse on the right rein in canter, which could be an evasion. Matti has gone completely backwards

Matti was going so well, but has gone completely backwards and I can't work out why. He warms up well, then it's like a switch goes in his head and he has a meltdown and only wants to canter/ do wall of death (that is the very abridged version).
